Otonye Mac-Barango

Mr. Otonye Mac-Barango is a multi-disciplinary professional. He is a Legal Practitioner, Chartered Secretary/Administrator, Chartered Arbitrator (UK), Certified Anti Money Laundering Specialist (USA) and Certified Human Resources Practitioner. His legal career spans about 2 (Two) decades and has been marked by a diverse range of litigation and in-house legal experience.

He commenced his career in the Ministry of Justice, Osun State, as a State Counsel, where he was involved in the prosecution of some high-profile criminal cases. He also had the rare privilege of working as a Solicitor and Trial Lawyer in the reputable and respected law firm of Lucius E. Nwosu (SAN) & Partners, where he honed his expertise in civil litigation and handled some celebrated cases.

His mix of uncommon, but related professional qualifications has seen him offer a bouquet of legal solutions to clients ranging from fund and deposit structuring, management, capital raising/structuring, business combinations, and loan recovery. He has been involved in formulating legal strategies, conducting legal due diligence, and negotiating terms and conditions for collaborative investments with several organizations. His blend of expertise and practical, problem-solving approach to law practice has consistently contributed to the effective resolution of legal issues and management of legal and compliance risks.
Otonye Mac-Barango holds memberships in globally recognised professional bodies, such as the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (USA), Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK), Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) and Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) showcasing commitment to professional development. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Law (LL. B) from Rivers State University of Science and Technology and Barrister at Law (B.L.) from the Nigerian Law School.

He joined the Rivers State Microfinance Agency as an Executive Assistant in the Legal Department/Company Secretariat from where he rose to become the Group Company Secretary/General Counsel in 2011.

Otonye Mac-Barango who is a graduate of the 26th Course in “Drafting Commercial Agreements and Banking Documentations” of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) has attended several international and domestic conferences, seminars, and workshops. He is also a resource person for Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) and Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), where he has delivered trainings on topics ranging from business strategy, labour law, sustainability and corporate governance amongst others.
